The Orochi Medaka (Japanese name: オロチメダカ) is a classic improved medaka strain known for its intense, full-body pigmentation. Named after the legendary Japanese serpent, Orochi is prized for its deep, uniform jet-black coloration and strong visual presence in both top-view bowls and aquariums.

As one of the most stable black medaka lines, Orochi is frequently used in breeding projects where contrast and dark coloration are desired. It also serves as a foundational variety for developing dramatic medaka lines such as Black Diamond.
