Medaka Group Import

What is Medaka Group Import?

We’re excited to announce our upcoming group import of Japanese Ricefish (Medaka), scheduled to arrive in the US in May 2026. This upcoming import will be our 8th import under SNR Medaka USA and our 3rd group import.

At SNR, we personally travel to Japan to pick healthy fish and handle all logistics ourselves. No middlemen involved. With multiple successful imports under our belt, we’ve developed a smooth, secure, and reliable process that we’re confident in.

Group import started with a simple goal, making high-quality medaka more accessible in the US. We work directly with breeders we trust and have built long-term relationships with. Quality is always the priority.

Why Group Import

Importing live fish individually is expensive and not practical for most people. Group import allows us to share international shipping costs and handle the process more efficiently.

It also gives access to strains that are not commonly available in the US, which is one of the main reasons this process exists.

Why Pricing Is Not Public

Pricing is not fixed and can change depending on breeder pricing, season, availability, and fish condition. Some strains are also produced in limited quantities.

For that reason, pricing is shared only with customers who have confirmed interest.

Availability

For this May import, availability is more limited than usual. Spring season can be tight, and not every strain is available in large numbers.

Orders are handled on a first come, first served basis based on deposit. Availability is not guaranteed until the fish are secured.

If a selected strain is not available, you can choose a replacement within a similar price range or receive a refund.

Group Import Timeline

  • April 14th: Interest closes and quotes are sent
  • Deposit: 50% required within 24 hours after first invoice
  • Early to Mid May: Fish arrive in the US
  • Quarantine: Approximately 10 days
  • Final Invoice: Sent with group photos for each strain from the imported batch
  • Final Payment: Due within 24 hours
  • Shipping: After full payment, typically mid to late May

How It Works

  1. Create an account at snrmedaka.us
  2. Submit your interest through Google Form
  3. Access is granted within 24 hours (email must match your account).
  4. View pricing (Unlocked within 24 hours after Google Form submission)
  5. Select your strains and quantities, then submit your quote request directly through the pricing page.
  6. Availability is confirmed and the first invoice is issued. Availability is not guaranteed until the fish are secured.
  7. A 50% deposit is required within 24 hours. If payment is not received within that time, the invoice will be voided and the fish will be offered to the next person in line. This is to give everyone a fair chance to secure their medaka.
  8. Your order is secured once the deposit is received.
  9. Fish will be imported and quarantined for approximately 10 days.
  10. Group photos will be shared and the final invoice will be issued.
  11. The remaining 50% balance is due within 24 hours after the final invoice.
  12. Shipping will be arranged after full payment is completed.

How Pricing Works

Medaka pricing varies depending on quality, rarity, how new the strain is, fixation level, and breeder reputation.

Fish from experienced breeders often show clear differences in stability, coloration, and overall quality compared to hobby-level fish.

  • Fish cost
  • International shipping ($35 per pair)
  • Domestic shipping (based on zip code and quantity)

A 50% deposit secures the order.

DOA Policy

Group import medaka are covered under a separate DOA policy from our regular retail website policy.

For group import orders, any DOA claim must be reported within 3 hours of delivery. The fish must remain in the unopened bag, and clear videos must be provided.

Claims will not be accepted after the bag is opened.

Please email us within that timeframe or contact us through our Contact Us page.

Final Note

This is not a volume-based process. Each fish is handled carefully, and live fish always involve variables.

We focus on bringing in healthy, high-quality medaka and handling the process properly, and we appreciate your understanding throughout the process.
