I ordered a breeding pair and although I’m still learning which ones are male versus female, I don’t mind the extra observation time because these are really fun to watch. The soft “plip” they make at the surface of the water during feeding time is cute and they are definitely not shy. I’m looking forward to seeing how they grow and change.
When I saw that they were listed as “culls,” I was a little nervous because I didn’t know what kind of fish I would receive. Still, I trusted that even SNR Medaka’s culls wouldn’t be unattractive fish, so I decided to place the order.
I made a special request when ordering, and although the seller was under no obligation to accommodate it, they fulfilled it perfectly. I truly appreciate that.
Every fish arrived alive, and not just alive, but incredibly healthy. They even laid eggs inside the shipping bag! They have been settling in wonderfully for the past few days, and they are all beautiful fish in my eyes. Honestly, I was surprised by how pretty they are.
I have purchased S-grade fish before, and of course, you can tell the difference between these and S-grade fish. However, these fish are extremely healthy, beautiful, and each one has its own unique characteristics. Don’t hesitate to order!
We’ve had our Tsumugi medaka for a week and we can’t stop watching them. They are animated little fish and depending on where they are in the tank, they might look more silver or even opalescent. Their heads are especially pretty; ours have a teal shimmer to them. When they pass in front of our dark rock cave, the edges of their fins seem to glow almost an electric blue. It’s so cool!
Ordered a breeding pair and two juveniles, all four arrived alive and healthy. Well packaged, looking forward to ordering from SNR again.

Hi Joshua, thank you for your feedback! I’m glad they arrived healthy. These Ulysses Paradiso are young adults, born around April-May this year. They’re still on the smaller side, but they have already started breeding here. Once they settle in and get used to their new home, I think there’s a good chance you’ll start seeing eggs within a couple of weeks. Since they’re still young, you should also have a nice long breeding period with them. Thanks again, and please keep me posted on how they do!
Amazing experience. The shipping box was really well put together, it showed great detail and care. We followed the instructions and the fish looked super happy. Currently our 5 Panda Medaka are thriving in our small 50gallon pond. We already have lots of fry that we hope survive and give us even more beautiful medaka fish. I would 100% recommend this company. I'm a first time fish owner and going with Medaka was a dream.

I bought juveniles and they came healthy and are thriving in my nano planted tank. Very lively and get along with red cherry shrimp. They are entertaining and fun to watch.
Another great order from SNR. I had two DOA of the smaller ones - likely since it’s hot and the shipper delayed from morning until evening - but all the rest have acclimated well and are happy and healthy a few weeks later. Enjoying my Island of Misfit Toys and now culls from some of my other little ponds will have a family to live out their days with. It’s fun trying to guess what strain they are as they grow up! Despite being culls, they are still pretty little ones and in good health. This is a great way to simply get a lot of Medaka to enjoy for the sake of having Medaka at a very low and reasonable price for quality fish. I appreciate the extras for DOA arrivals, too. Usually all my SNR fish make the trip, but this time of year that trip was a bit harder.
