Great variety! I received 2 mixed sets of fish, all healthy and active, and so many different colors and sizes. I am excited to watch them as they settle in and grow!
I’ve waited a bit to review my recent purchase of two sets of breeding trios. Before discovering SNR, I purchased Medaka from a reputable online retailer, LFS and another hobbyist. My fish live lush lives, albeit outside, here in Houston Texas. The online store and LFS fish started strong including lots of fry with zero effort, but they’ve now started to decline and I’ve suddenly lost a fish here and there of the parents. I just don’t think genetics are up to snuff in the aquarium bred strains. The difference in the activity level and quality and heartiness of my SNR and hobbyist fish are night and day. This has been my first time with Medaka ponds, but not fish as I keep Koi, goldfish, and native dace. Until my SNR and hobbyist fish, I was starting to get disappointed at the supposed heartiness and lack of health issues with Medaka. I’m now much happier! Time will tell though and I’ll be sure to update my review if this trend continues. I have way more confidence it will!

Beautiful color and shimmer on them. Even came with an extra. I've had them for less than a month and they've been thriving in my backyard tub. I already have like 2 dozen fry
I ordered 6 juveniles and was thrilled to count 9 upon arrival! All alive, active, and curious. I have them in a holding tank for observation and a bit more growth before they make the final move into my little outdoor planted pond. Noticeable variance in size, the largest (3/4") being roughly 3x the size/length of the smallest (1/4"). Ultimately, the size difference is completely unproblematic, and the little guy is having no trouble competing for food or occasionally chasing around the bigger fish. Lost 1 Medaka on day 3, had been acting lethargic and mostly unresponsive to feeding and the rest of its little clan. Likely just shipping stress. We are now 6 days in and the remaining 8 have settled in and seem to be thriving. Observing healthy behaviors like: schooling, exploring, grazing, non-aggressive chasing. I am very pleased with this whole experience and am already excited to come back to SNR when I'm ready to introduce another strain!
I was concerned about our temperatures being in the upper 90s this week, but they arrived healthy and thriving! There was even an extra fish in there (I expect in case they did not fare well in the heat) but the temp inside the box was perfect. All the fish are happy, adorable and doing well in their new forever home. Many thanks!
